The impact of corona has ben felt wide and high! We are changing our outlook with a wedding change the date, a cancelled honeymoon, and the uncertainty of the job market. I honestly had no idea that people sent out change the dates. Like it is a real thing, y'all. These are the top two changes that we made to our budget in preparation for the uncertainty of corona.

Stack Our Emergency Fund

The moment we saw the writing on the wall people losing their jobs, being furloughed, and panicking to buy toilet paper we decided to change our focus from paying off debt to saving as much money as can. There were definitely things to consider
  • Our Wedding only needed one more payment but eventually we ended up having to move it to November so that was one less immediate expense.
  • Our Honeymoon was shaky due to the whole virus that could spread just by breathing. So we ended up cancelling our honeymoon to Jamaica. Thanks, Corona. At this time we don't even know when we'll take our honeymoon. Still waiting on our money.
  • Our Cruise that we rescheduled already. This cruise was something we'd been looking forward to for 2 years. It was paid off and we were excited to go but then corona. Still waiting on our money.
  • Our Trip to Orlando which we also had to reschedule back in 2019 because of big tropical storm.

The world has definitely been moving against our travel plans for 2020.

All these items led us to move our focus to saving for any future job loses. We decided that saving for 6 month of expenses would be better for our future planning. If you think for even a second that your job might not be there tomorrow, then save money!

Cut Our Eating Out Budget

Cutting spending is top on most people's list while Kitrick and I don't spend a lot per month on food we decided that it would be best to cut going out to end spending. We still grab something once a month to support our local business but we buy more food and cook almost all of our meals in our kitchen. This cut back has left us with $200 extra each month. Those small trips for breakfast or lunch are now removed form our daily spending habits. Are relying on fast food or cooking your own food?
Let me know how corona changed your plans.
