On August  27, 2018 I will have over my 7 years of being natural and this list is a compilation of the important lessons that I have learned.
  1. Fall in love with you hair
  2. Trim those ends
  3. Detangle-Detangle
  4. Bad hair days are still Good hair days
  5. Not all products are created equal
  6. True Natural hair professionals are the best
  7. Butter and Oil makes healthy hair
  8. You make the hair, the hair does not make you

1. Fall in love with you hair

I know you think you have 3B or 4C hair and I am sure you prepared before you started your natural journey for how to handle your type of hair. I am sure of this, just like I am sure your hair is nothing like you expected. In my humble opinion, no type of hair is better or worst than another but what matters is loving the hair that you have been blessed with because it is all you got girl!

2. Trim those ends

Am I the only one who has procrastinated when it came to trimming those ends?

At one point during the 2nd or 3rd year of my hair journey, I thought I was someone special and didn't trim my ends for 6 months, guess what happened? They cut off about 4 inches of my hair (Are you crying? I was on the inside when the lady said it had to go.)

However, that experience taught me something important. Create a plan a stick to it! I trim my ends myself every 6 to 9 weeks and get them professional done about once a year.

In this picture to the right, it had actually been 2 years and the lady was very impressed that I trim my ends myself because my hair was even and for the most part healthy.

Trimmed ends means hair growth.

I said bye bye to the almost 2 inches she cut off! Good Riddance!!

3. Detangle - Detangle

This is so important and I will stress this topic in my upcoming video.

4. Bad hair days are still GOOD hair days

I know, I know, I know you are probably thinking that is not a bad hair day Kalai. I'm sure you have pictures or days far worse than this one but give me a chance to explain. The roots didn't look nearly as moisturized as the strands! The roots from the back view was not shinning and popping hunny. It was dry and didn't start to look prosperous until day two.

I have millions of bad hair days but I don't let the hair run me e.g. item number 8.

5. Not all products are created equal

I shall be brief here because we must discuss this in the video! Not only are all products not created equal but not all products that work for me will work for you!

6. True Natural hair professionals are the best

A true professional is patient and can bring life to your hair. My hair is naturally tangle prone and have haunted many stylist but a true professional will know the right products, have experience, and the right attitude to handle your hair with care.

7. Butter and Oil makes Healthy Hair

Save the HAIR!! I will be sharing a few of my favorite products during my upcoming video but if you would like to read up on some of my beloved feel free to read the below blog post:
  1. What's a Bantu Knot?
  2. Deep Waves

8. You make the hair, the hair does not make you

Own it because it is yours and no one else's. Walk with your head high and shoulders back!
