Tips on Landing the Job

My experience as a Black woman in corporate America has been the best learning experience! These experiences have put me against adversity and put me around so many intelligent people.

Never did I think I would be changing jobs in the middle of a pandemic. But there was far stronger powers than my little self at work.

There are tons of great Black women who provide information in Instagram and Linkedin about interviewing and job hunting. I would definitely check out one of these awesome women to gain more information.

Here a few things that helped me to achieve my goals:

Updated Resume

When this opportunity came about I was fortunate enough to already have an updated resume that reflected my skills that translated well to the new position that I ended up applying for.

I know it can seem like a long process to keep your resume updated but I would like to point out that when you aren't prepared then you could miss out on an opportunity.

I recommend that you update your resume at least every quarter or every six months. This means that if an opportunity comes about you might only need to tweak your resume slightly to catch the eye of the recruiter or hiring manager.

Not sure how to update your resume?

There are good professional resume writers who will work with you.

Bet On You

No one knows the information that you know like you know it! Your uniqueness is what they want not just a person to do the job.

Well, most companies that you will be valued at wants your uniqueness.

For a long time, I felt a heavy dose of Imposter Syndrome. Why? No idea. I knew what I was talking about but yet I doubted my worthiness to be at the table. After a few conversations with coworkers, friends, and mentors, I realized that I am more than worthy to be heard and to sit at these tables.

Research

Research the company!

You are interviewing for a role that has the potential to change your life for the better. Not researching could lead to it changing it for the worst.
  • Research common interview questions for the role.
  • Research the finances.
  • Research the business area of the position that you have applied for.
  • Research the team.
  • Research your hiring manager and their manager

Research until you are blue in the face and highly prepared for any questions they throw your way.

Be Professional & Show a Little Personality

Like I mentioned in the Bet on You section most places that are worth working will value your uniqueness. Your goal is to stand out among all the other applicants and you can't do that if you are as plain as a piece of white paper.

Don't forget that you are bringing something to the table.

Remember these are from my personal experiences.
I am beyond blessed an excited to start this journey!

Don't forget to invest in yourself.

Sharing is caring so don't forget to share this blog posts with family and friends.
